How Dr Vero works
Dr Vero is Nigerian and has spent many years on one kind of work: reading the public record that others leave unread, and connecting names, dates and documents across courts, registers, budgets and archives. Every claim carries a grade: (A) a primary record we retrieved, (B) a statement by someone identifiable, (C) our own inference. Every report also states what its documents do not establish. The full method is on How we grade evidence.
Dr Vero is a working name. The newsroom does not publish the names of its staff: in Nigeria, journalists who report on public money are arrested and held over their work. Judge the work by its documents, which are printed with every report. Corrections are published in place and dated on the corrections page; tips and right of reply go through the contact form.
