Abbas-Bin Aliyu's website says he holds US postgraduate degrees. INEC's final candidate list records a BSc

The ADP presidential candidate's official website says he earned "postgraduate degrees from Concordia College in the United States". INEC's signed final list of 2027 candidates records his qualifications as "FSLC SSCE BSC". A draft Wikipedia biography created by an account that declared a conflict of interest put the degrees at Concordia College, Alabama. US Department of Education records show that college reported no graduate offering in any year we checked and closed in June 2018. On 3 June 2026 the draft swapped both Concordia degrees for a Nigerian BSc dated 2022 to 2026. The candidate's website still carries the original sentence.

The official website of Abbas-Bin Aliyu, the Action Democratic Party's candidate for president in 2027, introduces him in one sentence: "Rising from humble beginnings as an Almajiri child in Kano State, he pursued education across continents, earning postgraduate degrees from Concordia College in the United States." The sentence was on the home page of aliyubinabbas.com, which carries the footer "© 2026 Amb. Aliyu Bin Abbas", when Vero Record captured it on 30 September 2026. The same wording appears in Internet Archive captures of the page dated 16 April 2026 and 28 July 2026. Voice of Nigeria, the federal government's international broadcaster, repeated it word for word on 3 June 2026 in its report on his nomination.

INEC's list records less. The commission's signed "Final List of Candidates" for the presidential election, a three-page PDF generated on 11 September 2026 and signed on every page by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, Secretary of the Commission, prints his entry as number 2: "ABBAS-BIN ALIYU", ADP, age 44. Under "QUALIFICATION(S)" it reads "FSLC SSCE BSC": a first school leaving certificate, a senior secondary certificate and a bachelor's degree. No master's degree or other postgraduate qualification appears. Vero Record downloaded the list from inecnigeria.org and read all three pages.

The column can hold a postgraduate degree when one is listed. By our count, eight of the 18 presidential entries on the same list show one. Omoyele Sowore's reads "FSLC WAEC MASTERS DEGREE". Atiku Abubakar's reads "F.S.L.C. WASC MA. (INT. RELATIONS". Others show an MBA, an LLM or a doctorate. The list does not explain how INEC compiled the column. Candidates' nomination particulars on Form EC9 were put on display at INEC offices from 1 August 2026, according to reports that Vero Record read. We have not inspected Abbas's Form EC9, so we cannot say which bachelor's degree it names or whether it mentions any other.

The website names no campus, subject or year. A more specific version appeared on Wikipedia. On 17 April 2026 an account called "Ultimatemastery" created "Draft:Aliyu Bin Abbas". At the top it posted the notice: "I disclose that I have a conflict of interest regarding the subject of this article." The draft's education table listed three qualifications: "BSc, Political Science" from "Concordia College, Alabama, USA", 2012-2016; "MSc, Political Science" from "Concordia College, Alabama, USA", 2016-2018; and "MSc, International Relations" from Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano, "Ongoing". Every revision of the draft remains public in Wikipedia's page history, and Vero Record retrieved each version cited here.

We checked the college that draft named against the US federal register of colleges. The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), run by the National Center for Education Statistics at the US Department of Education, publishes each year a directory file with one row for every institution. Concordia College Alabama, in Selma, is unit 101073. In the 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018 files, all of which we downloaded from nces.ed.gov, its row carries the same codes: highest level of offering "5", which the NCES data dictionary defines as "Bachelor's degree", and graduate offering "2", defined as "No graduate offering". NCES states that graduate offerings "include master's and doctor's degrees". The 2018 file gives the college's closing date as "06/08/2018", which is 8 June 2018. According to those files, the college named for the MSc offered no graduate programme during the years the draft assigns to that degree, and it closed in the year the MSc was said to end. The same files show it did offer bachelor's degrees, so the IPEDS record does not rule out the draft's BSc entry.

The website's wording is looser than the draft's, and the federal data do not settle it on their own. Other American colleges carry the Concordia name. In the same IPEDS files, Concordia College at Moorhead in Minnesota and Concordia College-New York in Bronxville both report a master's degree as their highest offering. The US record therefore establishes something narrower: the one Concordia College named in any document tied to Abbas's biography had no graduate programme to award.

On 3 June 2026 the draft changed. At 11:47 UTC the same account uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, as its "own work", a photograph titled "Aliyu Bin Abbas certificate of return". At 11:50 UTC it edited the draft with the summary "Updated education and political career section with reliable sources". Both Concordia rows were deleted. In their place the table read: "BSc Political Science", "Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa", "2022–2026", followed by the Maryam Abacha master's, still "Ongoing". Every later version carries the Lafia degree. The current text says he "later earned a BSc in Political Science from the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa, between 2022 and 2026" and cites a Blueprint article of February 2026. We read that article. It does not mention his education.

The two versions cannot both be a complete account. One gives him an American bachelor's degree finished in 2016 and an American master's finished in 2018. The other gives him no American degree at all and a Nigerian bachelor's degree finished in 2026, which would be the only degree in the table and matches the single "BSC" on INEC's list. Neither version matches the website, which still says "postgraduate degrees", in the plural, from Concordia College. Voice of Nigeria published the website's sentence at 14:40 UTC on 3 June 2026, less than three hours after the draft dropped the Concordia entries.

We do not know who operates the Ultimatemastery account, and we do not treat its drafts as statements by Abbas. What the record shows about the account is this. It declared a conflict of interest on the draft and again on 3 June 2026 on the Draft talk page, where it wrote: "I should mention upfront that I have a conflict of interest per WP:COI". Between 8 April and 3 June 2026 it uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, as its own work, an official portrait of Abbas, photographs of National Youth Alliance events and the certificate-of-return photograph. The portrait at the top of this report is one of those uploads. The footer of the National Youth Alliance's official website reads "Powered by Ultimate Ads Mastery". That similarity of names does not establish that the website builder and the Wikipedia account are the same. The draft's other personal details agree with INEC's list. It gives his date of birth as 2 February 1982, which by our arithmetic made him 44 on 11 September 2026, the age INEC prints. Wikipedia reviewers twice declined the draft, noting that it "appears to be generated by a large language model", so the Alabama entries may have been a drafting error rather than information the candidate supplied. The website's claim of postgraduate degrees stands independently of the draft.

Nothing here touches his eligibility. Section 131(d) of the Constitution requires a presidential candidate to have been "educated up to at least the School Certificate level or its equivalent", and INEC's list shows that. Under section 29(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which Vero Record read, a candidate's particulars must be accompanied by an affidavit sworn before a High Court, stating that he has "fulfilled all the constitutional requirements for election into that office". Section 29(5) allows only an aspirant from the same party's primary to go to court over false information, and only information "in relation to his constitutional requirements". A postgraduate degree is not one of those requirements, and a claim on a campaign website is not an affidavit. The question these records raise is whether the candidate's public account of his education is accurate, not whether he qualifies for the ballot.

The website is not the only place where Abbas's public account and INEC's paperwork diverge. Before the ADP, he tried to start his own party. INEC's document "Associations Seeking Registration as Political Parties as at Monday 23rd June 2025" lists, as entry 32, the "National Youth Alliance", acronym NYA, at "19, 44 Crescent CITEC Villa Estate off 6th Avenue, Gwarimpa". Its protem chairman is given as "Amb. Aliyu Bin Abbas" and its protem secretary as "Hon. Meshack Onyeche". INEC has since moved its website and the file no longer loads there. Vero Record read the copy archived by the Internet Archive on 4 July 2025, which is identical to the one in our own archive.

On 11 September 2025, INEC announced that 14 of 171 applicant associations had passed its preliminary screening. The commission's newsletter of 12 September 2025, which we read in an archived copy, says each application was "evaluated based on its prima facie compliance with Section 222 of the Constitution", section 79 of the Electoral Act 2022 and the commission's 2022 party regulations, and that "while 14 associations met the requirements to proceed to the next stage, 157 did not." The 14 associations are named. The National Youth Alliance is not among them. The 14 and the 157 add up to 171. INEC's release gives no reasons for individual associations, and Vero Record has not seen the letter INEC said it would send to each of them.

The alliance described the outcome differently. Daily Trust reported on 9 November 2025 that its council "condemned in strong terms" INEC's "continuous refusal to register the National Youth Alliance as a political party, despite fulfilling all legal and constitutional requirements." On 4 February 2026, Tribune reported Abbas as saying INEC had denied the application despite "its constitutional right" and that the group would continue as a movement. The ADP's national chairman, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, addressed that NYA event in Kano, according to the same report. On 16 February 2026 in Asaba, Blueprint quoted Abbas: "Even though our constitutional rights were denied, we will continue as a movement to mobilize youth and women, and support candidates who align with our principles." Fifteen weeks later, on 30 May 2026, the ADP announced him as its presidential candidate. INEC found at the preliminary stage that 157 applicants did not meet the requirements. The alliance says it met all of them. Only the association's own filing or INEC's letter to it can show which account is correct, and neither is public.

When Vero Record profiled Abbas on 26 September, we wrote that his personal record "is largely a self- and party-description". The documents gathered since then test part of that self-description. His website's claim of American postgraduate degrees does not appear on INEC's list. The only Concordia College named for those degrees had no graduate programme, according to the US government's own register. The draft that named it was rewritten on the Wikipedia page at 11:50 UTC on 3 June, the day Voice of Nigeria published the original claim. Vero Record did not put these questions to Abbas or the ADP before publication. We will publish any response, and any certificate or transcript he chooses to share, in full.

What this rests on

Documents retrieved and read by Vero Record on 30 September 2026: (1) the home page of aliyubinabbas.com, captured live, with Internet Archive captures of 16 April and 28 July 2026 carrying the same Concordia sentence; (2) INEC's signed Final List of Candidates for the 2027 presidential election (PDF generated 11 September 2026), which gives entry 2 as "FSLC SSCE BSC"; (3) the US NCES IPEDS directory files HD2013, HD2016, HD2017 and HD2018 plus the HD2016 data dictionary, which show Concordia College Alabama (UNITID 101073) with highest offering "Bachelor's degree", "No graduate offering" and a closing date of 06/08/2018; (4) every cited revision of Wikipedia's Draft:Aliyu Bin Abbas, with the account's conflict-of-interest declarations and its Commons upload log; (5) INEC's June 2025 list of associations seeking registration (entry 32, NYA) and INEC's 12 September 2025 newsletter on 14 of 171 associations prequalifying; (6) sections 29 and 131 in the texts of the Electoral Act 2026 and the 1999 Constitution. Press accounts (Voice of Nigeria, Daily Trust, Tribune, Blueprint) are graded B. The count of postgraduate entries on INEC's list, the age arithmetic and the time comparison between the Wikipedia edit and the VON story are our own work, graded C.

What this does not establish

It is not established whether Abbas holds a postgraduate degree from any institution, whether he attended any Concordia College, or which bachelor's degree his Form EC9 names. We did not inspect the EC9 and did not ask the Federal University of Lafia to confirm the degree the current draft attributes to him. We do not know who operates the Wikipedia/Commons account "Ultimatemastery", whether Abbas saw or approved its drafts, or whether it is connected to "Ultimate Ads Mastery", the builder credited on the NYA website. Wikipedia reviewers flagged the draft as possible LLM output, so its Alabama entries may be a drafting error and not the candidate's claim. INEC's reasons for not prequalifying the National Youth Alliance, and the contents of its letter to the association, are not public. No court, regulator or INEC finding concerns any of this, and nothing here alleges an offence. His constitutional eligibility is not in question.

What we did ourselves

We set the candidate's own website claim against INEC's qualification column and counted the postgraduate entries for the other candidates. We retrieved the full revision history of a conflict-of-interest draft biography and dated the removal of the Concordia degrees to 11:50 UTC on 3 June 2026. We tested the named college against four years of US federal IPEDS directory files, decoded with the NCES data dictionary, and checked the other US colleges named Concordia so the finding is not overstated. We also set the NYA's claim that it fulfilled every registration requirement against INEC's June 2025 applicant list and its September 2025 prequalification result.
